What is Wen Jing Tang?

Wen Jing Tang, also known as "Warm the Menses Decoction" or "Unblock the Ren Mai Decoction," is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formula used for women's health.

Originating from a classic text known as the Jing Gui Yao Lue (Synopsis of Prescriptions of the Golden Chamber), Wen Jing Tang was developed by the famous physician, Zhang Zhong Jing during the late Han dynasty (2nd century A.D).

What are the benefits of Wen Jing Tang?

In TCM, Wen Jing Tang is used to warm the channels and dissipate cold, dispel stasis and nourish blood.

By warming the menses, nourishing blood, promoting circulation and reducing blood stagnation, Wen Jing Tang helps to address cramps and regulate the menstrual cycle.

What is the dosage and method for taking Wen Jing Tang?

The generally recommended dosage of Wen Jing Tang in capsule form is 4-6 capsules, two to three times daily; or as loose granules, 4.5 g mixed with hot water, 2-3 times per day. However, always follow your healthcare provider's instructions, as the dosage can vary based on your condition and response to treatment.

Please see What's the Recommended Dosage for Granule Herbs? for more information.

When can I expect to see results?

Wen Jing Tang typically starts to take effect within days. However, like all treatments, its efficacy can vary from person to person.

Does Wen Jing Tang have any side effects?

While Wen Jing Tang is generally considered safe for most people, it can cause side effects in some individuals. Women who are pregnant, nursing, or postpartum as well as people with liver disease, should avoid or use Wen Jing Tang with caution.

As with any Chinese herb, we recommend consulting with a qualified practitioner of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) about Wen Jing Tang before any course of treatment is started.
