Tianjiang Pharmaceutical's Trip to the United States Promotes Chinese Medicine Culture and Accelerates Internationalization
This series of events aimed to further the spread and development of Chinese medical culture by creating exchanges and cooperation between Eastern and Western medical approaches. Through these experiences, Chinese medicine services and products are better able to enter the international traditional medicine market, and to further accelerate internationalization of Chinese medicine. Tianjiang Pharmaceuticals--led by General Manager Yu Min--presented academic and clinical research, as well as brand promotion activities across the United States, from November 6th to November 14th.

 

First stop, Delegation A

San Francisco Highland and Sutter Health Hospital - Chinese Medicine Clinical Research Cooperation
Yu Min, general manager of Tianjiang Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., was invited by the US Highland Hospital and Sutter Health Affliliate to visit the two hospitals on November 6th.
Highland Hospital was the first in the United States to have a clinical teaching base for acupuncture and Chinese medicine in a Western medicine hospital. As a representative of private hospitals, Sutter Health has more than 20 medical facilities. The Tianjiang delegation visited the two hospitals to learn more about the development of traditional Chinese medicine in public and private hospitals in the United States.
Hospital leadership and Tianjiang's delegation conducted detailed discussions on cooperation models for clinical research and academic fields. Together, they reached an intention of cooperation agreement. This will open a new chapter in the clinical research of traditional Chinese medicine by American hospitals.

First stop, Delegation B

Establishment of the Tianjiang Pharmaceutical Los Angeles Distribution Center

Zou Zengqiang, Deputy of Tianjiang Pharmaceutical, arrived in Los Angeles on November 6th to attend a cooperation and exchange meeting set up by UPC Medical. They jointly established a Los Angeles Distribution Center for Tianjiang Pharmaceutical.

Also present at the conference were Ken Rausch, President of the Amman City Chamber of Commerce, Christine Knight, Director of Marketing and Membership, Chen Dafang, President of the California Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine Association, Philip Yi, President of Guanshu Biotech, and Chao Zhang, President of Blue Light, Inc., Tianjiang Pharmaceutical's US General Agent and Distributor since 1994.

The second stop, Delegation B

Exhibition at the 2018 SupplySide West Expo in Las Vegas

SupplySide West is a trade show based around the development of finished consumer products, alongside cooperation opportunities to promote the growth of the global business economy. Held once a year, it is a very important platform for enterprises to introduce Chinese Herbal Medicine to the western market. This exhibition attracted more than 2,000 companies and more than 20,000 visitors in an exhibition area of more than 20,000 square meters.
This was Tianjiang Pharmaceutical's first time participating in the expo. The company learned a lot about the US ingredients market, and had the opportunity to meet a number of key figures in said market. Tianjiang Pharmaceutical plans to participate in the annual exhibition regularly in the future. The company plans to organize academic lectures by well-known Chinese and American experts in China and the United States.

 

The third stop

Harvard Chinese Medicine Forum and Tianjiang Traditional Chinese Medicine Granule Extracts Academic Forum

On November 11th, the 2018 Harvard TCM & Tianjiang Granule Extract Forum was held at Harvard Medical School's McLean Hospital. Nearly 100 American scholars and Chinese medicine practitioners participated in the forum. At the forum, General Manager Yu Min delivered a speech entitled "Developing Traditional Chinese Medicine Preparations, Serving Human Health - The Development of Chinese Granule Extracts in China".

In the speech, General Manager Yu Min delved into the history of traditional Chinese medicine and the current strides being taken to modernize it. He then described the state of research in the field of Chinese granule extracts.

Tianjiang Pharmaceutical is committed to the development of the "full industrial chain digitalization" of traditional Chinese medicine quality management. Quality management is tested and monitored from the source--seedlings, seeds, medicinal materials, plantation--to the production process and finished products.

For the first time, Tianjiang Pharmaceutical held an academic forum in partnership with faculty at Harvard Medical School. This forum is not only a platform for deep exchanges between Chinese and American companies and practitioners in the field of Chinese medicine, but also promotes the modernization, standardization, and internationalization of Chinese medicine. As a member of the National Academy of Sciences of China, Chen Kefi gave a congratulatory message to this forum: "Developing Chinese Medicinal Herbal Extracts, Preparations to Serve the People of the World's Five Continents".

Fourth stop

Visit to New York Medical School

On November 13th, the Tianjiang Pharmaceutical delegation arrived at the hospital for an exchange visit by the invitation of Professor Li Xiu-Min of New York Medical College. The delegation visited her laboratory and discussed with both her team members and the leaders of the New York Medical College cooperation in basic research and clinical research of Chinese medicine. Professor Li Xiu-Min is a professor of the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, as well as the director of the Center for Integrative Medicine in Clinical Immunology, and a recipient of the 2016 Future Health Technology Award.

Conclusion

Tianjiang Pharmaceutical's trip to the United States involved interaction with a variety of significant entities in the the field of medicine, including Highland Hospital, Sutter Health, Harvard Chinese Medicine Forum, and New York Medical College. Each visit was aimed at conducting scientific research on traditional Chinese medicine.  Additionally, Tianjiang attended the SupplySide West industrial trade show to advance the development of Chinese medicine in the raw material market.

Visiting hospitals, researching US markets and policies, and conversing with academic scholars, especially in the mainstream medicine society of the US, was enriching for Tianjiang's delegation. The company not only recognizes the issues surrounding the development of traditional Chinese medicine in the mainstream Western medical market, but also sees that our modern day has unprecedented opportunities for change. Through the expansion of science and technology, the spectrum of disease, as well as medical goals and models have undergone tremendous change. The idea Traditional Chinese medicine and modern Western medicine complement one another synergistically has only been reinforced over the years. 

As Chen Zhu, the former Minister of Health in China said, "The convergence of the two cognitive forces between the East and the West is an inevitable trend in the promotion and development of modern medicine to a higher level. This convergence has enriched and improved the connotation of Chinese and Western medicine".

The Tianjiang team conducted a thorough group discussion in New York and made a systematic US market development plan. They decided to use the achievements and advantages of Tianjiang in China to promote traditional Chinese medicine in the West. Tianjiang plans to work along with the requirements of Western modern medicine, design scientific and clinical research programs, launch products suitable for the US market, and build systematic distribution systems. By carrying out scientific research cooperation, academic lectures, educational programs in Chinese medicine, acupuncture, and public wellness, Tianjiang Pharmaceutical plans to be be the premiere brand name in the US market for Chinese herbal extracts.
