What is Ba Zhen Tang?
Ba Zhen Tang, also known as "Eight Treasures Decoction," is a traditional Chinese herbal formula believed to have originated during the Ming Dynasty. “Eight Treasures” refers to this formula’s inclusion of its eight herbal ingredients.
What are the benefits of Ba Zhen Tang?
In TCM, Ba Zhen Tang is used to enhance qi (vital energy) and nourish the blood, particularly benefiting those with fatigue, pale complexion and dizziness due to qi and blood deficiencies.
In modern uses, Ba Zhen Tang is suggested to boost the immune system, improve digestion, aid in women's health including menstrual irregularities and menopausal symptoms, and provide overall rejuvenation.
What is the dosage and method for taking Ba Zhen Tang?
The generally recommended dosage of Ba Zhen Tang in capsule form is four capsules, two to three times daily; or as loose granules, 4.5 g mixed with hot water, 2-3 times per day. However, always follow your healthcare provider's instructions, as the dosage can vary based on your condition and response to treatment.
Please see What's the Recommended Dosage for Granule Herbs? for more information.
When can I expect to see results?
Ba Zhen Tang typically starts to take effect within days. However, like all treatments, its efficacy can vary from person to person.
Does Ba Zhen Tang have any side effects?
While Ba Zhen Tang is generally considered safe for most people, it can cause side effects in some individuals. Women who are pregnant, nursing, or postpartum as well as people with liver disease, should avoid or use Ba Zhen Tang with caution.
